Huron Animal Hospital, located on the Denver/Aurora border, is searching for a full time Veterinary Technicians and Care Team Assistants. The desired candidate will possess stellar customer service skills, enjoy interacting with people, both on the phone and in person, and demonstrate a passion for working with animals. The desired candidate will be able to multitask, thrive in a fast paced environment, and have an aptitude for great patient care. Desired candidate will be able to administer injections, perform venipuncture, take vital signs of animals, and properly restrain animals, including fractious pets, for examination and treatment. Additionally, the desired candidate should be able to give treatments/medications intravenously, orally, and subcutaneously. The desired candidate must be able to work well independently and with a team.

Job Description

Assists the veterinarian with office visits, exams, surgical procedure, dental prophylaxis, and takes care of the everyday needs of pets in the hospital and helps maintain the hospital facility, keeping it neat and clean.

Job Requirements/ Skills/ Physical Demands

An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals, be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds.

Essential Functions

  • Provide compassionate care for pets
  • Assist veterinarian during wellness, sick, or drop-off exams including checking in patients, taking proper history, relying information to DVM efficiently and effectively, drawing up vaccines, and communicating patient wellness needs with client
  • Demonstrates and promotes positive customer service experience.
  • Restrain pets for veterinarians and technicians
  • Assist in the taking of x-rays
  • Monitor and collect urine and fecal samples as needed
  • Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized/boarded pets
  • Clean cages, runs, boarding area and/or hospital facilities, including exam rooms, treatment room, exotics and isolation area, employee lounge, bathrooms and doctor’s office
  • Complete follow up phone calls daily
  • Collect, prepare and label samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination
  • Fill prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers
  • Answer phones as needed

Patient Care

  • Dental prophylaxis
  • Administer medications and treatments
  • Oversee basic preventive care appointments
  • Triage urgent care patients to identify patients in emergent need of medical intervention
  • Assist veterinarians in sick patient workup and treatment
  • Perform or assist with humane euthanasia

Client Education

  • Nutrition and wellness care
  • Medication compliance
  • Participate in team approach to educating clients on medical concerns and chronic disease management
  • Help develop client education tools
  • Oral health care

Laboratory

  • Run in-house diagnostics
  • Prep samples for referral laboratories
  • Patient sample collection
  • Use of safe sample handling techniques

Pharmacy

  • Maintain in-house formulary
  • Coordinate prescription refills
  • Fill prescriptions using the 5 rights
