Aspen Animal Hospital is a busy 4 doctor practice with tenured staff and an excellent high-end clientele. We are currently in the process of becoming an AAHA Accredited hospital and will be accredited within the year. We take pride in our well-equipped hospital which is THE place to practice advanced levels of surgery and medicine. We offer in-house to our clients a wide range of services beyond general practice including advanced ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, and orthopedics. Our doctor team would be excited to help mentor any veterinarian with these advanced services.

As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, you are a leader within the hospital. We are looking for someone who has a true passion for the industry and has a desire to expand on your skills and knowledge.

We are looking for someone who can be a strong support system for both our doctors and staff. Strong communication skills are a must along with a solid skill set of technical skills like patient restraint, phlebotomy, and anesthesia.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs physical examinations; records observations on patients.
  • Assists the doctor in medical, surgical, and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; assists the doctor in administering anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.
  • Gives injections and administers oral medications in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Performs emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and external cardiac massage.
  • Assists in restraining pets (horses, animals) when necessary.
  • Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records.
  • Takes radiographs and administers EKGs and EEGs.
  • Admits and discharges patients on the doctor's orders, ensuring that patients are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state. Counsels clients on various aspects of animal care; explains dosage/purpose of medications; reinforces the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home; makes follow-up calls to clients.
  • Understands usage and dosage for all prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients.
  • Properly cleans all surgical materials after they are used; keeps the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery. 


Education and License Requirments:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Veterinary Technician Certification is desirable but not required.


Personal Requirments:

  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed or ill or in pain.
  • Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
  • Is able to work effectively with doctors.
  • Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all hospital staff members.
  • Has excellent client communication skills.


Physical Effort:

  • Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). 
  • Walks or stands for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position.


Working conditions: 

  • May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
