Spire Canine Orthopedics (formerly Spire Veterinary Surgery) has been a premier mobile veterinary surgical provider specializing in orthopedic surgeries since 2015. We are excited to announce our doors are now open at our veterinary surgery center in beautiful Windsor, Colorado!

Spire Canine Orthopedics is a cutting-edge veterinary surgery center dedicated exclusively to orthopedic conditions in dogs. Our team is led by Dr. Kevin McAbee, an ACVS board-certified surgeon specializing in veterinary orthopedics. The Spire team combines the most advanced technology available in veterinary surgery with minimally invasive procedures to treat orthopedic problems from common injuries to complex fractures and beyond. We pride ourselves on providing exemplary care. Our surgical technicians are critical to achieving the best possible outcome for our patients.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist the surgical team with common and advanced arthroscopy and orthopedic surgical procedures
  • Perform and prepare anesthesia monitoring and protocols
  • Nursing care (including blood draws, IVC, intubation, lab procedures, pre & post op care)
  • Patient safety, surgical preparation, and care
  • Prepare surgical instrument table during procedures
  • Clean and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
  • Take radiographs - demonstrates proper positioning techniques
  • Medical record review & completion (SOAPs, anesthesia, estimates, invoices etc.)
  • General patient and client care
  • Bandaging and incision care
  • Client communication, scheduling, record keeping
  • Equipment and general hospital maintenance
  • Basic organization and computer skills
  • Perform related duties as required

Experience and Expectations

  • Preferred graduate of an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician program
  • Preferred Credentialed Veterinary Technician
  • Preferred 2+ years experience in a Veterinary clinic setting
  • Working knowledge of surgery, anatomy, and sterility
  • Working knowledge of anesthesia and surgical nursing care
  • Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals and stand for long periods of time
  • Thrives in a fast pace environment, quick problem solving
  • Must have reliable transportation, technicians are expected to drive/carpool to and from minimal mobile surgery locations
